Founder · Lead Educator
Father Peter Bowes
A clinical psychologist who turned to teaching meditation full-time.
Father Peter founded the Inner Path Center in 2014 to make contemplative practice accessible to people in Knoxville and the surrounding region. He trained as a clinical psychologist and spent years in private practice working with couples, adults, and adolescents before turning his focus to teaching meditation and mindful living.
His teaching draws on the Christian contemplative tradition while remaining open to participants of every background and belief. Outside of his work at the Center, Peter writes books, composes music, and builds fine furniture.
Father Peter meets one-on-one with anyone interested in personalized guidance for their meditation practice. Group programs are open without any application or commitment.
Our Mission
Quiet, accessible, year-round.
The Inner Path Center is dedicated to making contemplative practice freely available to the public, without barriers of cost, background, or prior experience. Our programs aim to support the wellbeing of individuals and the social health of the community we serve.
We do this through three lines of programming: practice (weekly group meditation sessions), study (free and donation-based seminars on contemplative literature and practice), and community (a quiet, hospitable space for conversation and mutual support). All programs are open to the public.
Our teaching draws primarily from the Christian contemplative tradition, but is informed by the broader wisdom traditions of the world. Participants of every faith — and of none — are welcome. We hold the dignity of every person who walks through our door, and we do not require anyone to adopt a particular belief in order to participate.
Loving practice is essential. Theory without practice rarely changes anyone.

Who We Serve
Anyone curious enough to walk in.
Our doors are open to anyone interested in stillness, study, or simply a quiet hour with others. We welcome longtime practitioners, complete beginners, and curious skeptics with equal hospitality.
Many participants find their way to us during difficult seasons of life: grief, anxiety, vocational change, the questions that arise in middle adulthood. Some come from established religious backgrounds; many come from none. We do not require — or expect — anyone to share our particular framing of the practice.
We do not work with minors at this time, and we recommend our group programs for adults seeking a sustained, reflective practice rather than a quick fix. We are not a substitute for medical or mental-health care, and we are happy to refer locally when that is what someone actually needs.
Governance & Transparency
A small, accountable organization.
Inner Path Center, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) public charity registered in Tennessee, EIN 46-1333666, IRS ruling year 2014. We are listed on Charity Navigator and remain in good standing with the IRS as a religious nonprofit.
We keep our operation lean and our overhead low. Programs are funded through individual donations and the sales of educational materials. We publish a financial summary annually and welcome questions about our finances or governance — please write to us.
